Food Engineering mentor, Fullbright scholar to conduct advanced research in Louisiana


With an awarded scholarship, a doctorate degree holder and Chemical & Food Engineering faculty is set to go overseas and conduct research under the Fulbright – Philippine Agriculture Scholarship Program (FPASP) for Advanced Research in Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Los Angeles on November 2017.


Dr. Shirley G. Cabrera and six other scholars leaving for US under the Filipino-American Program underwent a two-day Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) at the Philippine-American Educational Foundation Board (PAEF) office in Makati City, followed by a reception at the U.S. Embassy in Pasay City held last June 15 – 16, covering matters that would facilitate their transition to American academic and cultural life.


The actual conduct of her study entitled “Evaluation and Characterization of Properties of Palm (CoryphaElataRoxb.) Sugar” is expected to run from December 2017 to May 2018.


Other scholars under the Filipino-American Program include Aurora F. Pinon also of Batangas State University, Gemerlyn G. Garcia of Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Edwin C. Atabay of Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), Evelyn F. Delfin of University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB), Ma. Lorelie U. Agbagala of the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), and Janice A. Ragaza of Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU). They were chosen by the PAEFBoard headed by US Ambassador Sung Y. Kim to continue capacity-building for the Philippines in various disciplines through teaching, studying, lecturing, and conducting research with huge and lasting impact for the country.
