BatStateU to establish first Huawei ICT Academy in the region

Batangas State University is set to establish the first ever Huawei ICT Academy in the region as it entered into a memorandum of agreement with Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc. on August 24, 2019 at the Higher Education Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City.

Huawei ICT Academy aims to provide quality training to students focused on the areas of IP routing and switching, WLAN, security, storage, cloud and big data. Training courses to be offered shall provide students with lectures and training modules that will equip them with the necessary skills needed to pass the Huawei Certification. Currently, BatStateU alumnus and Huawei FR Manager Engr. Sean Alegre, is the first and only Huawei Certified IT Professional from BatStateU.

University President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo expressed his excitement in the partnership as he looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with Huawei— focused mainly on students’ growth. He also thanked them for the opportunities that will be provided to students. Moreover, he shared updates on the soon to be established technopark to be officially called BatStateU KIST Park or Knowledge, Innovation, Science and Technology Park— which is currently being endorsed to the Office of the President for Presidential Proclamation. He said that the industrial park will house different locators and potential business partners, and foster collaboration between industries and academe through internship, industry training, immersion and recruitment.

On the other hand, Huawei Service Director Mr. Alan Li Guodong conveyed his strong commitment towards the partnership as he shares his hopes of boosting the students’ knowledge and skills with them. “Huawei will help prepare future talents into the ICT industry as well as support the sustainable growth of the Philippines”, he said.

The MOA signing was participated by Dr. Ronquillo, Mr. Guodong, VP for Research Development and Extension Services Engr. Albertson D. Amante, Dean of the College for Engineering, Architecture and Fine Arts Dr. Elisa D. Gutierrez and Huawei Channel Service Manager Mr. Lim Seow Boon.

On the same day, the university also launched its new PhD in Electronics Engineering program— a CHED-recognized Center of Excellence program— headed by Dr. Celso Co, the Program Coordinator. He presented the program curriculum and policies, and introduced the pioneer batch of the program.

National and local media practitioners also graced the momentous event.
