Technopark Management Board Members converge for first meeting

The University’s Technopark Management Board (TMB) held its first meeting for the BatStateU Knowledge, Innovation, Science and Technology (KIST) Park (formerly BatStateU Technopark) on January 10 at the Function Hall, CIRTC Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City.

TMB members include: Mr. Richard Albert I. Osmond (Chairperson), President and COO of Science Park of the Philippines, Inc.; Dr. Tirso A. Ronquilllo (Vice Chairperson), PASUC and BatStateU President; Engr. Filemon T. Berba, Jr., President of Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology; Atty. Ruel V. Canobas, Director for Risk Opportunity and Management Consultancy, Inc.; Engr. Ernest Nierras, CEO and Chairman of Pythos Technology Philippines Inc.; Mr. Warlito P. Guerra, Board Director for GLES Venture Group Inc.; Dr. Celso B. Co, Research Director and Industry Coordinator of Research and Development Office, Technological Institute of the Philippines; Ms. Rafaelita M. Aldaba, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr., Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship Advisor of DTI; Atty. Luzviminda C. Rosales, VP for Administration and Finance of BatStateU; and Engr. Albertson D. Amante, VP for Research, Development and Extension Services of BatStateU.

The team is responsible for the management of the park during its development and operation phases, which include planning, organization, project management, operational management, risk management, property management and investment management. It was created on September 6, 2018 by the BatStateU Board of Regents (BOR) during their 59th regular meeting.

During the TMB meeting, President Ronquillo and VP Amante delivered a presentation about the park’s objectives. To identify areas for improvement, the park’s Site Development Plan, Procurement Plan for Design Services and 2019 Program of Expenditures were also presented.

The KIST Park shall bring science and technology-based R&D results of the university to the market, through establishing facilities for product development and locator spaces for incubation of start-ups and spinoffs. This shall also build a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem among the academe, industry and community, through various knowledge-driven innovation programs and public private partnerships.

The reclassification of BatStateU Technopark to KIST Park was approved by the BOR on May 30, 2018 during their first special meeting through Board Resolution No. 26 S. 2018. This was a taken advice from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) to expand the mandate of the applied technology park.

The KIST Park is now being endorsed by the Department of Trade and Industry to the Office of the President for Presidential Proclamation. Once granted, the agreement between BatStateU and PEZA will be prepared, signed and registered, thus authorizing the university to commence with the establishment of its KIST Park.

This shall be located adjacent to BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main II in Alangilan, Batangas City, with approximately 2.8 hectares of land.
