Batangas State University hosted the 4th quarter meeting of the Sectoral Committee on Social Development/ Social Protection (SCSD/SP) on November 6 at the Function Hall, 7th Floor, CIRTC Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City.
Dir. Luis G. Banua, the Regional Director for National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) IV-A, presided at the meeting as the Vice Chairperson for SCSD/SP. The Vice President for Administration and Finance, Atty. Luzviminda C. Rosales represented BatStateU President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, who is also the Chairperson for SCSD/SP.
As part of the agenda, the BatStateU Inclusive Social Innovation for Regional Growth (BISIG) was endorsed to the Regional Development Council Region IV-A, after the presentation given by Engr. Neres Ann S. Manguiat, University Research Associate I at the university’s Center for Technopreneurship and Innovation (CTI).
The establishment of BISIG aims to meet the needs of various communities that will pave the way to sustainable development. This will serve as a social innovation hub in the region that will promote innovative education, relevant researches, high-impact extension projects, regional collaborations and social enterprises.
Atty. Rosales, on the other hand, presented the university’s thrust and priorities for the next ten years called BASICS which stands for Brand Excellence, Access, Social Relevance, Inclusive Innovation, Capacity and Sustainability. This includes strengthening the university’s academic programs, building a smarter campus, creating more comprehensive and community-oriented extension service projects, producing more relevant research outputs, and establishing innovative partnerships between the academic and industry sectors.
Also discussed in the meeting were the status of SCSD/SP banner projects, 2019 work programs, various reports of SCSD/SP’s subcommittees and other SCSD/SP-related matters.
