The 22nd season of the Universities, Schools and Colleges Athletic Association (USCAA) commenced on October 2, 2018 with the theme, “Innovate, Ignite and Illuminate through Sports”. Thirteen institutions which include Batangas State University graced the opening ceremony held at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.
This year’s host, the Golden Gate Colleges was represented by its Executive Vice President Marcelo V. Buquid, Jr., who delivered the opening remarks. Atty. Victor Reginald Dimacuha, Batangas City Mayor Beverley Rose A. Dimacuha’s representative, conveyed the latter’s message among the athletes which is to promote the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Hon. Hermilando “Dodo” I. Mandanas, Governor of the Province of Batangas, expressed his strong support towards the activity. He encouraged the athletes to further develop their skills and talents as they compete and uphold the bold characteristics of Batangueños.
The honorary chairman and founder of USCAA, Msgr. Rafael “Boy” Oriondo, also delivered his message of gratitude to the thirteen participating institutions for their continuous support to USCAA. He shared among the athletes the value of sports in building team spirit and discipline as he ended his speech.
Each of the member schools showcased their cheers and bench movements during the yell presentations. The Search for Miss USCAA 2018 was also held same with the cheerdance competition where BatStateU emerged as the second placer. A solidarity dance was also performed by the participating schools at the end of the program.
BatStateU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Erma B. Quinay joined the ceremony on behalf of University President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo.
