The Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas- Southern Tagalog, Inc. (KKP-ST, Inc.) held its 47th annual convention on September 6-7, 2018 at Batangas State University, Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City. This aims to convene chemistry practitioners from academic institutions, government agencies and industrial companies within Southern Tagalog provinces to talk about the latest updates on the emerging chemical technologies and issues that impact the chemistry profession.
This year’s theme, “KKP-ST@47: Gearing up towards Global Standards and Certification” was explained by KKP-ST, Inc. President Dr. Katherine Ann C. Israel in the opening program.
“The Philippines’ growing economy demands for global competitiveness of its products and services thus, this year’s theme is very timely as it gives focus on meeting global standards of quality assurance” said the president.
On the other hand, the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Erma B. Quinay delivered the welcome remarks on behalf of BatStateU President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo.
“May this gathering of scientists brings to all new knowledge, ideas and enable you to establish linkages that will make you more innovative and successful in your respective scientific and technological endeavors” Dr. Quinay expressed as she hopes for the successful implementation of the event.
The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Benilda S. Ebarvia of the National Metrology Laboratory Industrial Technology Development Institute- Department of Science and Technology (ITDI-DOST) then presented her paper entitled, Gravimetric Quantification of Benzoic Acid in Matrix Reference Material by HPLV and Isotope Dilution-LCMSMS.
The two-day convention featured plenary sessions led by experts in the field of quality assurance, young scientist forums, product presentations, oral paper presentations, poster presentations and technology exhibits.
Awards were also given to young chemistry practitioners in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
KKP-ST, Inc. will also be awarding best oral and poster papers to deserving candidates at the end of the program.
