BatStateU conducts 50th Commencement Exercises

Batangas State University held its 50th Commencement Exercises on June 18-23 with the theme, “Building the Nation through Innovative and Transformative Education”. Headed by President Tirso A. Ronquillo, a total of 6, 921 graduates and completers marched in the June 2018 commencement exercises with two Summa Cum Laude, 15 Magna Cum Laude, 169 Cum Laude, 14 Outstanding and four With Honors on the graduates’ list.

Sen. Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero, member of the Congress of the Philippines, and Cong. Ann K. Hofer, District Representative of the 2nd District of Zamboanga Sibugay led the first two days of the ceremony joined by graduates from Pablo Borbon Main (PBM) I and II, BatStateU Lipa, BatStateU Lobo, and BatStateU Balayan at the Gov. Feliciano “Sanoy” Leviste Multipurpose Memorial Gymnasium, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City.

Brig. Gen. Charito B. Plaza, Director General of Philippine Economic Zone Authority served as the guest speaker on June 20. The brigadier focused her speech on the three basic precepts the graduates must bear in mind: honesty, a positive attitude, and discipline. She further inspired the graduates from PBM I and II to prioritize our country and be effective contributors in nation building.

Meanwhile, the fourth day of the commencement exercises held on June 21 was graced by Mr. Jones M. Castro, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Philippine Development Foundation (PhilDev) and Atty. Maria Paz G. Luna, the OIC- Regional Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IV-A CALABARZON. It was attended by graduates from PBM I and II, BatStateU Lemery, and BatStateU JPLPC Malvar.

In the morning, Mr. Castro encouraged the graduates to be courageous in following their dreams. “Step out without fear of failure or rejection” said the executive vice chairman as he persuades the graduates to explore and learn more while they are young.

During the afternoon ceremony, Atty. Luna then shared that graduates must have a never ending thirst for learning. She challenged them to produce innovative ideas that will bring significant effects in our country.

Moreover, Engr. Raul D. Mercado, Chairman of the Committee on Education at the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry- Batangas Chapter led the ceremony on June 22 participated by the PBM I Integrated School graduates and completers. “The true measure of accomplishment is not in what we can receive. There will come a time that you will begin to realize that the true measure of accomplishment is in what you can give” said Engr. Raul as he inspires the graduates to live in compassion.

On June 22, BatStateU ARASOF Nasugbu also held its commencement exercises for its laboratory school and undergraduate programs where Ms. Maricor Lee Pedrajas-Dagdagan, Vice President and Control Manager of JP Morgan Chase & Co. and Cong. Elenita Milagros Ermita-Buhain, District Representative of the 1st District of Batangas served as the guest speakers. Both speakers urged the graduates to practice perseverance towards reaching their goals and dreams no matter how tough the journey will be. It was held at the Alfonso G. Joson Gymnasium, BatStateU ARASOF Nasugbu, Batangas.

Mayor Beverly Rose A. Dimacuha-Mariño of Batangas City served as the guest of honor and speaker on the last day of commencement exercises, June 23. In her commencement address, the city mayor familiarized the graduates on what to expect as they enter a new chapter of their lives. She inspired them to be prepared on what the future holds and to embrace challenges that will help them improve as an individual with strong moral values and exceptional talents.

The last day was attended by graduates from PBM I and II, BatStateU Rosario, and BatStateU San Juan.

The BatStateU Board of Regents and the Executive Committee also graced the momentous event.
