NEDA I Benchmarks BatStateU’s Initiatives on Regional Development

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region I paid a visit to Batangas State University to benchmark its regional development programs on April 27, 2018. The learning visit was made possible thru the request of Mr. Donald James D. Gawe, Asst. Regional Director of NEDA I and Secretary of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Ilocos Region, acknowledging the University’s active participation in the RDC CALABARZON.

To brief the participants on the university schemes, Assoc. Prof. Albertson D. Amante, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Services presented the achievements and developments of the University.

“Innovation is a favorite term for the University. By doing innovations, we also want to transform lives” said Assoc. Prof. Amante as he formally started the presentation. The highlights of his presentation include the University’s recent awards in the 20th CALABARZON Gawad KALASAG where BatStateU was recognized as the Best Higher Education Institution and its Team SIGAW (Solar-Powered Isotropic Generator of Acoustic Wave- a Tsunami Early Warning System) was given special recognition as well.

Assoc. Prof. Amante also shared that the accomplishments of the university was anchored to its strategic plan.  He uttered that all of its research centers and extension programs, activities and projects (PAPs) will bring, or have brought positive impacts to the community. Additionally, he emphasized the university’s continuous strive for development by sharing its initiatives on establishing water retention facilities, a flood protection system that can also be beneficial for the city and its communities.

By the end of the presentation, Assoc. Prof. Amante mentioned the university’s new project, ALA_EH- a program which focuses on the development of innovative solutions for the problems of the society. Moreover, he shared that BatStateU will be opening its 11th campus in Mabini, Batangas on August 2018.

Meanwhile, Dr. Vanessah V. Castillo, Director for Public Relations also introduced the university’s radio program entitled, “Balitaktakan Sa Umaga” which aims to update its stakeholders and clients on the recent events and accomplishments of BatStateU. It will be aired May of this year.

More than 25 participants from NEDA and RDC Ilocos Region led by NEDA Regional Director, Mr. Nestor G. Rillon and Mr. Gawe arrived at the Lecture Room, International Affairs Office, CITE Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City. The university officials namely, Prof. Rogelio A. Antenor, Vice President for External Affairs and ICT Services, Dr. Castillo, Engr. Edzel M. Gamab, Director for External Affairs, Dr. Agnes D. Arellano, Asst. Director for Alumni Affairs, and Assoc. Prof. Maria Theresa A. Hernandez, Asst. Director for Gender and Development, showed their support during the benchmarking event.
