BatStateU- Culture and Arts Victorious in the Theater Development Contest



True to its motto of “Leading Innovations, Transforming Lives”, Batangas State University Culture and Arts reached the top spot in the Balintataw Teatro ng mga Mamamayan, Theater Development Contest with their stage play entitled, “Liwanag sa Dilim”. The awarding ceremony was held at the Amphitheater, 4th Floor, CITE Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City on February 28, 2018.

Balintataw Teatro ng mga Mamamayan, Theater Development Contest, is a project initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which is intended to train youth and community members in performing arts. The actors on the stage act were community members from one of the adopted barangays of BatStateU, Barangay Talahib Pandayan. Members of the University’s Dulaang Batangan Theater Group with Mr. Mark Emmanuel S. Magsino, Head for Culture and Arts served as the mentors for the said contest.

The act performed by the participants stresses the present issues being experienced in their barangay which enabled them to voice out their concerns and apprehensions to the public.

In his message, President Tirso A. Ronquillo recognized the efforts and dedication that the performers, trainers, and the Culture and Arts Office have shown. He highlighted that one of the University’s initiatives is to empower communities and improve every individual’s quality of life. Dr. Ronquillo also acknowledged the enthusiasm displayed by Hon. Macario Macalalad, Barangay Talahib Pandayan Chairman and Mr. Joseph Constantine J. Arceo, DSWD Regional Information Officer who also expressed their sincerest gratitude to the University.

During the ceremony, a certificate and a check worth of Php 40, 000.00 were given to the first place winners. Fifty percent of the said amount will be given to Barangay Talahib Pandayan community while the other half will be for BatStateU.

Moreover, this achievement also would not be possible without the support and assistance exhibited by the University’s Extension Services Office.

This accomplishment of the University undeniably shows BatStateU’s passion for promoting culture and arts in different ways.
