Batangas State University joins in the observance of World AIDS Day 2017, December 1, 2017. With the theme “Right to Health”, it highlights the need for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those who are vulnerable and affected by the epidemic, to reach the goal of universal health coverage.
The observance started with a parade at Pablo Borbon Main 1, which was participated by University officials, led by Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, faculty, students, and guests. Dr. Ronquillo expressed commitment to the endeavors to provide awareness about HIV/AIDS and ensure the health and well-being of the members of the academic community. Guests were Dr. Allen Santos (City Health Office) and Ms. Ana Liza Abrenica (Provincial Health Office).
The event was highlighted by the formation of human ribbon and lighting of candles to continue to show support for PLHIV and to commemorate those who died from AIDS-related illness.
The activity was spearheaded by the Gender and Development Office through Asst. Director Maria Theresa Arellano-Hernandez, in partnership with the SSC BATSTATE-U GPB Main Campus I , OSAS Guidance and Counseling Office Head Ms. Dianne Solis-Cullar and Peer Facilitators, Provincial and City Health Offices, and Barako Batangas Pride .
