Being true to its mandate of pioneering research and development, Batangas State University (BatStateU) hosted the 3rd International Research Conference on Innovations in Engineering, Science and Technology (3rd IRCIEST), which aims to respond to the challenges in the technology-driven world and the shifting academic and research landscapes, September 27-29, 2017.
With its theme, “Converging with the ASEAN Community in Fostering Innovative Researches in Engineering, Science and Technology,” IRCIEST 2017 is co-hosted by Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), Thailand and University of Transport Technology (UTT), Vietnam.
IRCIEST is a gathering of science and engineering professionals and academicians all over the country and in other parts of the world who took part as plenary speakers, paper presenters and participants.
This year, the internationals conference’s major feature is the offering of Master Classes and Technology Pitching which provided an international platform for in-depth discussions on the most innovative technologies, trends and practices in specific disciplines along the areas of engineering, science and technology.
Academicians, engineers, environmentalists, scientists and researchers submitted research papers for oral and poster presentation which revolved around the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, Automation and Control, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Data Science and Analytics, Electronics, Energy and Environment, Engineering Education, Food and Agriculture, Information and Communication Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Science and Technology Education, and Technopreneurship.
The university’s state-of-the-art CALABARZON Integrated Research and Training Center (CIRTC) and the College of Industrial Teacher Education (CITE) Building became the venues of the three-day activity.
A total of thirty (30) local and foreign universities registered and participated in the said event which are as follows: Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (Thailand); University of Transport Technology (Vietnam); University of the Philippines Manila; Surigao State College of Technology; Bohol Island State University; Occidental Mindoro State College; University of the Philippines Visayas; Romblon State University; Caraga State University; Basilan State College; University of the Philippines-Diliman; Negros Oriental State University; Mariano Marcos State University; Southern Leyte State University; Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology; Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology; Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology; Sultan Kudarat State University; University of the Philippines Los Baños; Polytechnic University of the Philippines; Surigao Del Sur State University; Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology; Silliman University and State College; University of Asia and the Pacific; De La Salle State University Manila; Davao Del Norte State College; Davao Oriental State College; Aklan State University; Western Mindanao State University; and Batangas State University. The Department of Agriculture Region IV-B and Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers also partook in the said conference.
On the opening program, BatStateU Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Services and Conference Chair of the 3rd IRCIEST, Engr. Albertson Amante, expressed his great jubilation as he formally welcomed the guests, university officials, master class facilitators, plenary speakers, students, and other participants.
BatStateU President, Dr. Tirso Ronquillo, shared his delight to see that the conference they have initiated in 2013 is being sustained over the years. He noted that the event will pave way for collaboration and partnership among professionals for mutual development. Dr. Ronquillo also stressed the challenges faced by universities now are advancing to the 21st century like providing innovative solutions to the problems of the society and industry.
Secretary of Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Hon. Fortunato T. de la Peña, meanwhile, emphasized the contributions of different ASEAN countries in fostering innovative researches in engineering, science and technology. He also highlighted the recent developments in the Philippine government’s policies that have paved way for more researches which would address local and international needs in the future.
Entitled Conceive Design Implement Operate (CDIO) Framework for Education Reformation at RMUTT, the innovative research of Associate Professor Dr. Natha Kuptasthien in the Plenary Session A took place after the ribbon cutting ceremony for poster paper presentation.
Dr. Kuptasthien is an Assistant to the President for International Relations, and Director of International Strategy Division RMUTT, Thailand.
In the afternoon session, parallel paper presentations and lectures by local and international guests in Master Classes were simultaneously done.
The first day of the conference was wrapped up by a conference banquet held at the Gov. Feliciano Leviste Memorial Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Cultural presentations of Ad Libitum Chorus, BatStateU Dance Co., Diwayanis Dance Theater, and Dulaang Batangan highlighted the said event, which showcased the rich and refined culture of Batangas.
The second day of the conference started with a video presentation of the first day’s highlights and activities which is immediately followed by the Plenary Session B.
Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs of RMUTT, Thailand, Assistant Professor Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art, led the plenary session and discussed The Model for Research and Innovation Development at RMUTT.
Moving forward with the inspirational and technological ideas, the plenary session C was rendered by a social media entrepreneur, Mr. Eric Tomacruz, a trustee of Philippine Development Foundation.
The Director of Technology and Cyber Security Business Profile and a member of the Board of Directors in the Israel Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Mr. Sagiv Massad, discussed the Israel Innovation System in Plenary Session D.
Parallel paper presentations took place after the plenary sessions.
After a productive two-day exhibit of researches in innovation, science and technology, participants enjoyed the Fellowship Night held at Gov. Feliciano Leviste Memorial Multipurpose Gymnasium. The awarding of Best Oral Paper and Best Poster Paper also took place in the said event.
