BatStateU hosts 2nd Quarter NSED as CALABARZON Regional Ceremonial Venue

Batangas State University (BatStateU) ACTION Center – DREAM Academy, in collaboration with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region IV-A, hosted the 2 nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED-Calabarzon) on June 29, 2017 in Pablo Borbon Main 1 as the regional ceremonial venue. Prior to the event, the ACTION Center in coordination with OCD conducted Orientation-Demonstration- Rehearsal for 140-member disaster and emergency response group under the University Incident Command System (ICS) on June 21, 23 & 28, 2017.

Personnel of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) and Bureau of Fire Protection – Batangas City Fire Station (BFP-Batangas City) supported the preparation of activities of the drill. BFP-Batangas City Fire Marshall FSI Glenn Salazar facilitated, as resource person, the orientation of participants in the NSED and Crash Course on Earthquake and Proper Conduct of Drills. Mr. Jovener A. Dupilas, OCD IV-A Training Officer, took charge of organizing the BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I ICS and staffing of the Incident Management Team (IMT).

The BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I IMT was led by President Tirso A. Ronquillo as Responsible Officer while VPRDES Albertson D. Amante was designated as Incident Commander. IMT staff was composed of Atty. Luzviminda C. Rosales (Logistics), Engr. Antonio Gamboa (Safety Officer), Atty. Alvin R. De Silva, Dr. Vanessah V. Castillo and PR Director Armando V. Mendoza Jr. (Public Information Officers), Dr. Lucille Evangelista (Liaison Officer), Dr. Francis Aguirre (Staging Area), Dr. Romeo M. Guillo Jr. (Operations), Assoc. Prof. Romeo C. De Castro (Evacuation), Dr. Leila Manalo (Medical), Assoc. Prof. Jovito C. Plata (Safety and Fire), Mr. Jeffery Arrieta (Search and Rescue), and Mr. Reynaldo Balahibo (Security).

In relation to the activity, OCD kicked off the Bida ang Handa Campaign which generally aimed to promote disaster preparedness through public’s participation in the NSED. This campaign encouraged involvement of government, private, academe and media sectors as well as other stakeholders. They are also encouraged to generate photos and/or videos of individuals and groups conducting preparedness activities with the fan sign or spoken statement: “Mag-da-Duck, Cover and Hold kami sa June 29, 2017! Dahil bida ang handa!”. #BidaAngHanda is the official hashtag for this year’s NSED. The national ceremonial venue of the 2nd Quarter NSED was held at Bolton Street, Davao City.
